What is the origin of ‘dorud’ درود meaning ‘hello’?

This word and also the word bedrud بدرود ‘goodbye’ come from the Proto-Indo-European root *deru- via Avestan. The words deraxt درخت ‘tree’ and daaru دارو ‘medicine’ are also from the same root, together with some English words like ‘tree’ and ‘true’.
