Are the adjectives ‘shur’ شور and ‘namaki’ نمکی the same?
Updated: Feb 16, 2023
Shur شور is a common word to mean ‘too salty’. Namaki نمکی is a more general term and could mean anything that has salt in it. Its parts are namakنمک and -i (adjective maker). So, if I taste something and feel it has too much salt, I may say: Shur-e شوره(negative connotation). Here I wouldn’t say Namaki-ye نمکیه . The word namaki نمکی is most famously used in the name of an Iranian snack pofak namaki پفک نمکی , which is a salty snack. The word shurشور perhaps wouldn’t fit well here since it may denote too much salt.
